The RIOS-workshop is part of a European project, RIOS-Reducing the Impact from Oil Spills, funded by EU DG-Research; that will take place at Zoomarine, in Albufeira (Portugal), April 17-19, 2008.

The objective of the RIOS workshop is to identify and discuss to the priories for the European Action Plan on the Research Needs for Reducing Impacts from Oils Spills on Wildlife, which is the main expected result from the RIOS Project. The workshop, therefore, offers a unique opportunity for individuals and organisations (who are actively involved in the field of oiled wildlife response and rehabilitation) to meet colleagues from other countries and backgrounds and to contribute to the identification of the research priorities.

At the RIOS workshop, outstanding scientists and experts will provide an overview of the state of the art knowledge in the various areas of oiled wildlife response and preparedness. Poster presentations, plenary discussions and informal discussions during the breaks and the social programme, will allow participants to bring their views to the table. At the workshop, ideas for concrete research & demonstration projects can be discussed and the opportunities to get these projects funded may be discussed with representatives of the European Commission and other informed experts.

The target audience for the RIOS workshop are scientists, rehabilitators, veterinarians, national authority officials, NGOs, and other professionals in the field of oiled wildlife response and preparedness. The final programme will be available very. An updated version of the RIOS-Workshop Programme is available for download:
